A Look Back

A New Hope - Most observers had left bitcoin and blockchain for dead by 2015. But 400 enthusiasts and a major bank, Citi, showed up in a hotel ballroom in New York City for the inaugural Consensus.

We’re Still Here - Lightning struck again as Consensus 2016 showed the industry was alive and emerging from the doldrums. It was headlined by a 20 year-old Canadian named Vitalik Buterin who discussed a new decentralized smart contract platform called Ethereum.

Priming the Pump - Consensus 2017 came right as the initial coin offering craze was heating up and contentious bitcoin scalability questions were front and center. This proved to be the kindling that helped ignite the historic price boom later in the year.

Cryptopalooza - If there was ever an event that made crypto’s hype, passion, FOMO and extravagance real, it was Consensus 2018. With treasuries flush with cash from the coin offering craze and bull market spirits at their peak, 9,000 people flooded the Midtown Hilton for this memorable event.

Hangover Edition - The animal spirits of 2018 quickly gave way to a painful trough of disillusionment, but Consensus 2019 brought a breath of fresh air and highlighted the resolve of builders pressing ahead despite the bear market. The event was highlighted by an appearance by presidential candidate Andrew Yang.

Covid Edition - Forced to pivot on the fly because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Consensus 2020 took on a virtual flavor. With our partners in Asia and Europe, we repackaged the program into a 24-hour television broadcast that aired consecutively through the bitcoin halvening.
